Undoubtedly, Chattanooga, Tennessee could easily keep an army of inquisitive travelers entertained for a week. This vibrant southern city contains so much history and culture, and so many culinary options and family-friendly attractions, that visitors to the region may consider leaving the clubs at home. They should not, however, make this egregious mistake. In fact, all things considered, they should skip all the rest of Chattanooga's allures and stick to golf. Thirty-six holes a day sounds about right.
When Jack Nicklaus lends his name to a public course, the appreciative public should make a bear charge to the first tee. Bear Trace at Harrison Bay State Park is technically not in Chattanooga, but why quibble with municipality jurisdictions when a course as great as this one can be played for such extraordinarily fair rates? In other words, this is not a course to skip, even if your golfing allegiance is to The King (of course, in this part of the country, The King inhabited Graceland).
Nicklaus is not the only golf legend to leave his mark on the region. The incomparable Donald Ross designed the public Brainerd Golf Course (as well as the private Chattanooga Golf & Country Club), so fans of masterful layouts can get their fill in the Chattanooga area.
And Eagle Bluff Golf Club is a quality semi-private course that puts a premium on shot making, so golfers should not just grip it an rip it.
